Monroe County 4-H Members NYS Fair Horse Experience
Hippology, Horse Judging, Gymkhana, and more at the 2019 New York State Fair
Monroe County 4-H members participated in multiple horse related activities at the 2019 New York State Fair this year. Everyone worked hard, always had a smile, and supported other 4-H youth from across the state while learning and sharing.
A fantastic group of 4-H members represented the Region 2 Horse Program and participated in the Hippology contest at the state fair. They started at 8:00 AM with horse judging and kept going for 5 hours while working together to give oral presentations and take written tests. Topics included anatomy, breeds, knot tying, farrier tools, and more!
Highlights include the 6th place junior team, including Molly Krotz, Lexie Schwab, and Bryanna Wellington, as well as the 4th place junior team including Ava Ciravola and Rose Lanzatella. Individual placings for the junior division were achieved by Lexie (11th), Ava (10th), Rose (8th), and Molly (7th). In the senior division, Ella Bohn was part of the 5th place team.
Anya Katz, Sara Menke, Erin Zielinski, and Victoria Canales participated in the 4-H Gymkhana events. They had wonderful sportsmanship and bonds with their horses. They brought home beautiful ribbons and memories that will last a lifetime. Highlights for each youth include a 2nd place finish in the Bleeding Heart Class for Anya, a 3rd place ribbon for Victoria in the Texas-T-Barrels course for Victoria, a 4th place award for Erin in the Quadrangle Barrels, and a 6th place showing for Sara in the Pole Bending Class.
Molly Krotz and Ella Bohn participated in the NYS 4-H Horse Program Judging Event, working to improve their knowledge of projects that they love. Molly received 3rd place individual and 2nd place team and Ella was placed 3rd in the individual category and was part of the 1st place team!
The Monroe County 4-H team is excited that there was great participation at state fair by the youth in the horse project. The staff has great appreciation for seeing Belonging, Independence, Generosity, and Mastery develop.
The Monroe County 4-H Program is offered through Cornell Cooperative Extension to the youth of Monroe County. 4-H is a worldwide youth development program open to all youth aged 5 to 19, who want to have fun, learn new skills, and explore the world. In return, youth who participate in 4-H find a supportive environment and opportunities for hands-on or "experiential" learning about things that interest them.
