LeMoyne College Riding Team Growing Strong

Equestrian Team competes in IHSA hunt seat division in Zone 2 - Region 2 in Syracuse NY.

The Le Moyne College Equestrian Team is an Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association hunt seat team that competes in Zone 2 Region 2  in Syracuse NY. The team has a max of fifteen riders per season competing in divisions from Walk/Trot to Open Equitation Over Fences and everything in between. Currently there are 370+ schools and over 8,300 students throughout the United States and Canada that compete in the IHSA. The IHSA also offers scholarships and many networking opportunities for all levels of riders.

We compete in Zone 2 Region 2. Some schools we compete against are St. Lawrence University, Cazenovia College, Syracuse University, Canisus College, SUNY Geneseo, Oswego State, Guelph University and the University of Ottawa. IHSA shows strictly judge the rider on their style and execution on horses that they “draw” before their classes and do not have the opportunity to ride before competing on- the only opportunity to familiarize themselves with the horses is to watch them school and to walk their jumping courses on foot to establish a plan.  Even though we are a fairly young and small team, we are proud of the accomplishments we have made so far. From our annual Le Moyne Fall Benefit show, to tack being donated by Hermes, to sending riders to regional and zone finals we continue to grow as a team. We take pride in hosting the annual Le Moyne Fall Benefit Show. We are school partially funded club team so fundraising is very important to us. This is an event that our team looks forward to putting on every year, and is a great way to give back to the community and to help make a difference. In 2016 we donated a proceed of our profits to the St. Judes Children's Research Hospital. The 2017 benefit show is scheduled for October 1st in Pompey NY.

Senior riders Victoria Green & Samantha Bossone as well as Freshman Anna Moschella

will all be representing Le Moyne at regional finals at St. Lawrence University in April. Victoria will compete in the Open over Fences and Open on the flat, Samantha in Novice fences and flat and Anna joins them in representing Le Moyne in Novice flat. Each year we compete in eight regular season horse shows where the riders earn points not only for themselves but also for the team. These shows take place atCazenovia College, St. Lawrence University and SUNY Geneseo.  Fall semester consists of six shows and spring semester we attend two shows. One of the shows this semester was at St. Lawrence University in Canton NY, in which the team finished with an overall third place, just behind the top team in our region St. Lawrence University and Ottawa University taking second.

Some highlights from the St. Lawrence show include freshman Emily Farrelly from Savannah Georgia winning her novice fences class. Freshman Anna Moschella of Long Island NY won both her novice fences and flat class which allowed her to compete for High Point rider, in which she finished third! All of our rider had great rides and top ribbons. The riders who rode for the team points at this show were Victoria Green, Samantha Bossone, Anna Moschella and Katrina Sharkey who all had impressive performances but it all came down to the last class of the day, walk-trot, in which we needed to at least be third to stay in the top five. Sophomore Cameron Liddell of Fayetteville NY secured our teams overall third place finish with her second place award in that class!

We would like to extend our good luck wishes to all participants at the upcoming Zone 2 Region 2 finals April 1st at St. Lawrence University!
