 Endurance riding is an equestrian sport based on controlled long distance races. There are two main types of long-distance riding: Competitive trail riding and endurance rides. In a competitive trail ride, riders cover a marked trail for a distance usually between 15 and 40 miles per day.

Founded by Kate Starr in 2003, Sunshine has found loving homes for more than 150 horses. We specialize in retraining and rehoming retired Standardbred racehorses. However, Sunshine works with all horse breeds and prepares them for their forever homes.

Your horse sweats more during the summer, making electrolyte supplementation worth considering. But electrolytes alone will not protect against dehydration. Your horse needs to have enough sodium (salt). One ounce per day (two tablespoons) is adequate for maintenance during cool months, but hot, humid weather calls for at least two ounces per day, and more if your horse is in work of any kind.
